Resveratrol

Resveratrol Sources

Resveratrol supplements are the good source to get resveratrol in optimum concentration and form.
A recently discovered anti-oxidant works wonders for aging and fat burn. Red wine led to the discovery of new anti-oxidant named “Resveratrol”. It has been noticed that French people live longer and healthier despite of having fat rich food in their daily routine. With heavy food they are so use to of having glass of wine with their meals. The wine was found responsible for longer life and healthier hearts. This French Paradox caused to set the experiments and uncovered the anti-oxidant which is actually behind the health of French people.

Red Wine Anti-oxidant:
In wine it comes from the key ingredient ‘Grapes”. Grapes are the source of resveratrol and believed to have the compound in skin and seeds. Red grapes contain the higher concentration than the white grapes due to higher pigmentation. Similarly red wines showed higher amount of resveratrol than the white wines. Red wines are made from the skin and the seeds whereas in white wines grapes are used only with the seeds. “Muscadina grapes” are found to be rich in this red wine anti-oxidant. Apart from grapes, it is found in strawberry, blue berry, and up to a certain extent in mulberry. Eucalyptus is another source of resveratrol in nature. There is another plant “Japanese knotweed” which has been noticed to have the anti-oxidant in higher concentrations.

Why drink wine when it is available in fruits?
You must be thinking that when it is available in grapes why one should will go for the glass of wine. For the answer we have to know a little chemistry of the compound. In nature resveratrol is found in two forms: “Cis” and “Trans”. The desirable form for human health is “Trans” form. In nature it is found in both the forms and can be avail but it is always attached to some other molecule, thus not very effective. Like for example in grapes it is bound to a molecule of glucose and forms “piecid”. It is interesting to know that in the process of wine making it chemical change occurs and it gets available in the most desirable “trans” forms in a little higher concentration.

Resveratrol Supplements:
Resveratrol is a boon to human health if taken in appropriate quantities. In nature it is available but the concentrations and forms are in question. Very less quantity of resveratrol is available in the daily servings of the fruits. For the regular intake as a supplement it is not advisable to intake larger quantities of fruits as it increases the calorie intake. Wine is obviously not a good idea to get the desired concentrations of the anti-oxidant. There are supplements available in the market which fulfills the requirement without ingesting higher calories or a drum full of wine.

Choose your supplement:
An anti-aging anti-oxidant, which takes care of extra fats in the body and ensures a healthy heart, is worth some home work. So choose a resveratrol supplement which suits you and enjoy a beautiful life without worrying about aging and heart problems.
