An antioxidant “resveratrol” can work as anti-aging and calorie burning supplement?
What are Anti-oxidants?
To completely understand “Resveratrol” we will start with the anti-oxidants. There are so many chemical reactions going on in any biological system to perform certain operations like respiration or breaking down of complex molecule into simpler one. Whether it is a plant cell or animal cell these reactions results in free radicals, which are main cause of cell damage. It is a natural process and constantly occurring in the environment in any living tissue. In normal conditions a system can handle these damages by producing defense chemicals like anti-oxidants, anti-biotic or poly-phenols. But in the circumstances where anti-oxidants are simply not sufficient may be due to inhibition of antioxidants enzymes and excessive formation of free radicals, damage takes the worst route. Free radicals tend to accumulated during the metabolism while the cell gets older thus enhances the damaged tissue with the aged cells. This phenomenon is of particular importance in human beings and addressed as “aging”. A very simple example of cell damage is “wrinkles”. When skin cell gets damaged it results in wrinkles. Formation of free radicals is the core reason of many of the diseases like “Alzheimer’s disease”.
Anti-oxidants are the compound which stabilize the free radicals or prevents the synthesis of free radicals, thus, prevents damage. Different kinds of anti-oxidants are found in nature as ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), tocopherols (Vitamin E), polyphenols, and carotenoids. The main source of anti-oxidants is the natural unprocessed food. Decreased amount of natural foods in the diet is the primary concern reflected in the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation to consume 5 to 9 servings of fresh produce. To meet the nutrition requirement, antioxidants are widely used as ingredients in dietary supplements in the hope of maintaining health.
